The 48-year-old suspected thief of $1.58 million in cash was handed back to Hong Kong Police by Shenzhen authorities today.

The suspect, who was a supervisor of a security company, collected two bags of cash amounting to $2.1 million in Mong Kok on April 28. However, he reported to his company that the two bags went missing. A report was made to Police.

Investigations revealed that the man left for the Mainland in the small hours of April 29.

Police informed their Mainland counterparts and requested assistance to locate the suspect, which led to his arrest.

Police recovered $500,000, which is believed to be part of the stolen money, from the suspect's home.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Lo Yik-kee and Shenzhen Public Security Bureau Deputy Director Guan Lingen attended the handover at Huanggang Boundary Control Point.
