Record seizure of illicit fuel in Yuen Long
*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have smashed a cross-boundary oil smuggling syndicate with a record seizure of illicit fuel.

After extensive investigation and close surveillance, Diesel Oil Enforcement Division officers raided a storage facility at Kung Um Road, Yuen Long, yesterday and seized a container truck loaded with smuggled fuel.

They then intercepted a lorry loaded with more illicit fuel at Man Kam To Control Point.

A total of 85,000 litres of fuel, three containers, two tractors, three trailers and three lorries, worth a total of about $2 million, were seized. The fuel had a duty potential of about $520,000.

Two men and a woman, aged 40 to 50, were arrested.

The Customs & Excise Department said it will continue to take rigorous enforcement action against illicit oil activities. People can call its 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 to report suspected illicit oil activities.
