A Detective Police Constable has been jailed for accepting bribes to "fix" the investigation of a defendant in a Police case.
Li Po-kwok, 39, earlier found guilty of accepting an advantage, was today sentenced at Kowloon City Magistracy to three months' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and fined $5,000 by Magistrate Abu Bakar bin Wahab.
The court heard that on February 21 last year, Police arrested Yuen Chi-wing for alleged offences of blackmail and claiming to be a triad member.
Yuen was subsequently charged and brought to court. He sought assistance from Li while on court bail.
Li told Yuen that he was acquainted with officers in charge of the case, and undertook to gather information about the Police investigation.
The court heard that during a monitored meeting on March 5, 2002, Li accepted $5,000 in marked money from Yuen, with an undertaking that he would arrange for one of the officers in charge of the investigation to talk to him.
After taking the money, Li was arrested by Independent Commission Against Corruption officers.
