Marine Police have smashed a smuggling syndicate, arresting four men and seizing over $2 million in audio and visual equipment, and computer parts.
After extensive investigations, officers closely monitored the syndicate's smuggling activities in Sam Mun Tsai, Tai Po.
At about 5.30pm on April 3, two motorised sampans loaded with cargo were spotted manoeuvring near Tuen Tsui in Sai Kung. One was stopped off Shek Ngau Chau and 500 boxes of the smuggled goods were found aboard it, however no people were found.
Further enquiries revealed that a 48-year-old man, believed to be the ringleader, made a false report to Police the next day, claiming he was the owner of the goods which were later found stolen in Fanling.
Another 43-year-old man also falsely reported on April 9 that his motorised sampan, later confirmed to be impounded by Police, was missing.
Following in-depth investigations, officers arrested four men, including the pair making false reports, for smuggling activities. They are being detained for further enquiries.
