Sushi, noodle samples fail safety checks

*

Three sushi samples and a cold noodle dish have been deemed unsatisfactory in hygiene and safety quality.

The Consumer Council and the Centre for Food Safety recently conducted a joint test on 114 samples of everyday rice and noodle dishes. Two sushi samples exceeded aerobic bacterial limits, while the third had food-borne pathogen Staphylococcus aureus, which broke safety standard.

The cold noodle sample also has excess aerobic bacteria levels.

The samples were all sourced from restaurants at different locations between July and September. The centre has given health advice to the restaurants and taken follow-up samples and noted improvements.

There were 359 cases of bacterial food poisoning outbreaks from January to September. There were 500 cases last year.
