Fifty-seven electric vehicles will be on Hong Kong's roads by the end of April.
Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau told legislators today there will be 34 cars, 17 motorcycles, four vans and two buses running on electricity.
"The figures are increasing as electric vehicles from all over the world are [being developed] and put to commercial production, and seek to enter the Hong Kong market."
A local bus company will launch its supercapacitor bus in July for trial and a British manufacturer will introduce various models of commercial electric vehicles to Hong Kong later in the year.
The Government wants to introduce commercial electric vehicles but an adequate supply of vehicles, charging networks and support services are required, Mr Yau said.
Meanwhile, 25 more charging stations for electric vehicles will be set up by mid-year to meet rising demand, bringing the total to 62. The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department has issued technical guidelines to property management companies and car-park operators urging them to install charging facilities, he added.
