The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department has launched the liquefied petroleum gas vehicle-testing scheme involving 28 LPG taxis.

Preliminary work on two taxis was finished today, including cleaning of LPG fuel tanks and hoses, thorough checks and cleaning of vaporisers. Work on the remaining vehicles will be completed as soon as possible. Crown Motors will conduct checks on the cars. The department will supervise the process.

After the preliminary work is completed, the vehicles will refill at designated LPG stations and undergo regular inspections at designated workshops. If a vehicle breaks down during the testing period, the department will transport it to the workshop for further inspection.

Sinopec has conducted depleting and refilling of LPG storage tanks at its filling stations. Five stations have resumed service after completion of the work - Ma On Shan, Yuen Long, Kwun Tong, Kwai Chung and Kowloon Bay.

A study group has been formed to oversee the implementation of the scheme, which is expected to last three months.
