The total gross value of construction works performed by main contractors in this year's third quarter grew 1.9% to $24.6 billion in nominal terms, compared to a year ago, but fell 0.1% in real terms, after discounting the effect of price changes.

 

Releasing the figures today, the Census & Statistics Department said, analysed by the type of construction works, the gross value of construction works performed at private-sector sites totalled $8.3 billion, up 8.1% in nominal terms over a year earlier, and 0.9% in real terms.

 

For public-sector sites, the gross value rose 19.9% in nominal terms to $4.4 billion, and 20.6% in real terms.

 

Construction main contractors performed at locations other than construction sites amounted to $11.9 billion, down 7.1% in nominal terms, and 6.5% in real terms.

 

Residential building projects accounted for the largest share of works performed at construction sites, amounting to $5.3 billion, up 12.4% in nominal terms over a year earlier.

 

Service building projects constituted the second largest group of construction-site works, totalling $2.5 billion, up 64.6% in nominal terms.
