The Transport Advisory Committee backs the proposed installation of speed limiters on minibuses and the Government's strategy to enhance safety through regulation, education and enforcement.
Committee chairman Teresa Cheng said today the speed limiter will be an effective device to deter drivers from speeding, adding the committee supports the Government's swift action in requiring minibus owners to retrofit their vehicles with speed limiters from early next year.
The committee supported the proposal for blackboxes as basic equipment in all newly registered minibuses to help fleet management and driver monitoring, and the requirement for minibus licence applicants to attend a mandatory pre-service training course.
