Exhibition to show HK conservation success

Heritage show: Secretary for Development Carrie Lam launches the Heritage Alive: UNESCO Culture Heritage Awards Exhibition.

An exhibition showcasing 12 examples of Hong Kong's heritage conservation which have won the Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage of the United Nationals Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organisation will be held at the Heritage Discovery Centre until February 17.

 

Launching the exhibition at the centre today, Secretary for Development Carrie Lam said 128 projects have received the heritage awards since its establishment in 2000, among which 12 projects were from Hong Kong, representing 9.4% of all the awards.

 

"We have a great diversity and variety of projects winning the awards. It is this rich diversity of Hong Kong that makes us so different as a distinct world city," Mrs Lam said.

 

The 12 winning projects include both government projects and projects initiated and conducted by non-Government organisations. They are:

* Hung Shing Old Temple;

* Ohel Leah Synagogue;

* King Law Ka Shuk;

* Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception;

* St Joseph's Chapel;

* Tung Wah Coffin Home;

* St Andrew's Church;

* Liu Ying Lung Study Hall;

* Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre;

* Little Hong Kong;

* B�thanie; and,

* Academy of Visual Arts of the Hong Kong Baptist University.

 

Running from November 22 to February 17, the exhibition will share these conservation success stories with the public to enhance awareness of heritage preservation.
