The Council for Sustainable Development will recommend ways to deal with the problem of 'inflated' buildings in the first half of next year, Secretary for Development Carrie Lam says, adding the Government will review parking space proportions in buildings.

Speaking on a radio talk show this morning, Mrs Lam said the Government is actively considering stopping the practice of giving developers extra floor area as incentive to build environmentally-friendly flats.

She said the problem of 'inflated' buildings might escalate if the practice continues because new environmentally-friendly features will continue to emerge as technology develops.

Environmentally-friendly features can still be included in new flats through other means, she said, adding measures may be put in place to verify the functions of those features.

As Hong Kong has a comprehensive railway system which will continue to develop, the Government needs to study parking space demand in buildings.

Mrs Lam said the Government will review the issue to see if there is a need to adjust parking space proportions in buildings and other related matters.
