Heng On Estate lift fault inquiry launches

*
Electrical & Mechanical Services Department

The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department is investigating the suspected breakage of an elevator cable in Heng On Estate, Ma On Shan, last night which required the rescue of five people.

It received a report from the Fire Services Department at 9.40pm about the incident in Heng Shan House. One of the four suspension cables was found to be broken, which caused the safety protection system to function and stop the lift.

Its last maintenance examination was done December 20 by Otis Elevator. Safety checks have been done on the other 17 Otis lifts in the estate since the incident. All are safe.

Otis has been asked to submit an incident report to the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department by January 19. The department will announce its investigation findings in one month.
