The Urban Renewal Authority is holding a three-day roving exhibition at Citywalk, Tsuen Wan, before moving it to Times Square in Causeway Bay from November 21 to 23 and Grand Millennium Plaza in Central from November 24 to 26.

The Towards Urban Renewal 3.0 expo ties in with an extensive public-consultation exercise on the Urban Renewal Strategy Review to seek community views on the way forward for Hong Kong's urban regeneration.

On display are plans, pictures, models, video shows, illustrations and 3D computer animations giving visitors a full view of the key issues of urban regeneration, the projects undertaken by the former Land Development Corporation and the Urban Renewal Authority.

Urban regeneration

At the opening ceremony today, authority chairman Barry Cheung said the timing of the review is appropriate amid rapidly changing social sentiments and community expectations on urban renewal initiatives.

He said urban regeneration is a long-term social mission as 110,000 people still live in old urban areas in undesirable living conditions.

Noting urban renewal is a daunting task which cannot be accomplished by the authority alone, Mr Cheung appealed to the community and District Councils to help make it a success.

The first round of the exhibition was held at Olympian City from November 10 to 12 with an encouraging public response.

The authority will also hold an urban renewal seminar in mid-December to let overseas and local experts and participants share their experience and come up with ideas and proposals for further contemplation.
