Tai O Revitalisation Design Competition award presentation ceremony

Fine designs: Secretary for Development Carrie Lam commends the winners of the Design Competition for the Revitalisation of Tai O.

Six top concepts have been selected by the Government to consider in its plans to rejuvenate historic fishing village Tai O.

The Design Competition for the Revitalisation of Tai O award presentation ceremony was held at the Heritage Discovery Centre in Kowloon Park today. More than 100 concepts were received in the competition to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Tai O while enhancing its environment.

Officiating at the presentation ceremony Secretary for Development Carrie Lam said she was encouraged by the overwhelming response to the competition. Thirty-six entries were received in the professional category and 69 in the open group. Three winning entries and five merit entries for each group were selected.

She said Tai O is a unique place with distinctive cultural and natural characteristics, such as stilted houses, mangroves and heritage buildings like the Old Tai O Police Station.

"The competition entries have provided us with creative and useful ideas which will improve the natural and living environment of Tai O, as well as promote tourism and the local economy. We will fully consider these proposals when working out a holistic revitalisation plan for Tai O," she said.

The selected entries will be displayed at the centre September 10 to 24 from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday (except Thursdays), and 10am to 7pm Sundays and public holidays. Click here to see the winning entries.
