Curtain walls on Hong Kong buildings are structurally safe as they must meet stringent safety standards, the Buildings Department says, adding they should be designed and constructed in compliance with the Buildings Ordinance.

The department has inspected the windows blown out of a commercial building in Quarry Bay during the passing of Tropical Storm Kammori yesterday. It believes the openable windows were not properly closed for the storm. The cause of the incident therefore should not relate to the design and construction of the curtain wall system.

The department will further investigate the incident and take any action needed. Owners of properties damaged by the incident can seek compensation from the liable party.
