The Transport Department has awarded Thorn Security (Hong Kong) the contract to replace area traffic control systems in Kowloon, Tsuen Wan and Sha Tin, and expanding them to Tseung Kwan O.
The $133 million contract includes the design, supply and implementation of a computerised area traffic control network comprising a central computer system, peripheral equipment, about 890 traffic signal controllers and associated detectors, and civil works and maintenance services for five years.
The works began this month for commissioning in November 2011. Delcan International Corporation has been appointed to complete the design and supervise construction.
