Director of Planning Ava Ng says the Government is open-minded on the concepts for the re-assembly of Queen's Pier and reconstruction of the old Star Ferry Clock Tower.

Speaking on a radio talk show this morning, Mrs Ng said the document for the New Central Harbourfront Urban Design Study Stage 2 Public Engagement has listed the advantages and disadvantages of different proposals for public consideration.

Noting the concept to re-assemble Queen's Pier at its original location may affect the construction of Road P2, she said the Government is still studying how long the work will be delayed since the issue involves legal procedures.

However, the director said the public should focus not only on the completion time of the work.The historical significance and values of the pier and the clock tower should also be considered.

When asked whether the Government will minimise  commercial development in the area to provide more green space, Mrs Ng said the Government needs to strike a balance to ensure town planning can cope with the city's development.

To make the new Central harbourfront more vibrant, shopping and catering facilities, outdoor performance and activity venues will be included in the development plan.
