Estate Wi-Fi services to launch
*
Housing Authority

Public housing tenants will enjoy free Wi-Fi Internet access from tomorrow at designated communal areas in 120 estates, the Housing Authority says.

Tenants will receive a unique user ID and log-in information within the next few days for them to use the service in ground floor lift lobbies and adjoining outdoor areas from 6am to 11pm daily.

Hong Kong Broadband Network has set up about 1,000 access points denoted by clear labels.

The authority is exploring with other service vendors ways to identify more locations to increase the number of Wi-Fi hotspots and the feasibility of coverage extension. It said it maintains an open policy and welcomes any interested service vendors to offer tenants similar free services.

Interested information and communication technology service vendors will install and operate the systems at their own cost while the authority will provide basic communal facilities such as power.

Tenants can call Hong Kong Broadband's hotline, 128 100, for service enquiries.
