Carrie Lam meets Yang Xiong
Shanghai sojourn: Secretary for Development Carrie Lam meets Shanghai Vice Mayor Yang Xiong.

Secretary for Development Carrie Lam has started her three-day Shanghai visit, touring distinctive buildings and meeting Shanghai Vice Mayor Yang Xiong and Municipal City Planning Administration officials.

Mrs Lam visited the Old Millfun on Sha Jing Road today. Built in 1933 it was a slaughterhouse and has been classified as a provisional class four historic building. To convert it into a new landmark with contemporary elements the municipality is turning it into a specialised area for creative industries and a cultural, leisure, entertainment and food centre.

She also toured Tian Zi Fang in Da Pu Qiao district. An old factory there was converted into a modern industrial building, housing design workshops and studios set up by artists from 10 countries and regions. More than 40 art and craft shops and 20 design studios have been established on Tai Kang Road turning it into an "art street".

Mrs Lam also visited the venue of World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The expo will be held May to October 2010.
