Slope safety: Overseas geotechnical experts visit a landslip-prevention worksite in Sai Wan Estate. |
Sixteen geotechnical experts from 10 countries have visited the Civil Engineering & Development Department's Geotechnical Engineering Office to learn how Hong Kong reduces landslide risk.
The department's Geotechnical Engineering Office head Raymond Chan said Hong Kong has reduced landslide risk through a comprehensive slope safety management system.
The visitors were shown a computerised slope information system with data on 57,000 man-made slopes. They also visited a landslip preventive measures worksite and a drainage tunnelling site to learn about the department's efforts in upgrading substandard man-made slopes and mitigating natural terrain landslide risk.
