Bus operators agree to enhance safety
*
Transport Advisory Committee

Franchised bus operators have implemented or have agreed to adopt a number of measures to safeguard bus passengers, Transport Advisory Committee Chairman Teresa Cheng says.

They include enhancing the safety of front-row exposed seats in double-deck buses, improving upper-deck windscreens, continuous retrofitting of black boxes on buses and better working hour arrangements for bus drivers.

The committee was briefed today on the performance of franchised bus operators last year and noted that their performance was generally satisfactory.

Ms Cheng said operators have made improvements in a number of service areas, including the continuous enhancement of their fleet with more environmentally-friendly, air-conditioned and wheelchair-accessible buses, and strengthening passenger information through announcement systems on buses or information panels at bus stops and termini.

Ms Cheng urged operators to further enhance their operational efficiency, quality and competitiveness to meet future challenges.
