System check for digital TV urged

*
Office of the Telecommunications Authority

Incorporated owners and building managers should check and upgrade their in-building coaxial cable distribution systems for receiving digital terrestrial television signals, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority says.

According to the implementation framework, Asia Television (ATV) and Television Broadcast (TVB) will start simulcasting both digital terrestrial TV and analogue TV programmes by year's-end. ATV and TVB's digital terrestrial TV service will be transmitted by the main transmission station at Temple Hill and it will cover Kowloon, northern Hong Kong Island, Sha Tin and the eastern part of Lantau.

Incorporated owners and building managers can approach their in-building coaxial cable distribution system operators or procure the service from a new contractor.

The authority has issued the revised specification for in-building coaxial cable distribution systems which incorporates the performance requirements for the reception and distribution of digital terrestrial TV signals. A companion guideline providing necessary information for the upgrade is also available.

Both the specification and the guideline can be downloaded here. For questions call 2961 6333 or email dtv@ofta.gov.hk.
