Taxi operations under review

*
Transport Department

The Transport Advisory Committee is conducting a review on taxi operations and will submit a report next April, Deputy Commissioner for Transport Carolina Yip says.

Speaking on radio talk shows today, Ms Yip said the review, which began last April will enhance the trade's competitiveness.

From noon tomorrow, radio taxis will no longer pick up passengers near Carpark 1 - an interim measure introduced last Sunday after a blockade by taxi drivers. Taxis will have to move to Carpark 3.

The arrangement will put in place a new order for the smooth operation of transport services and tackle unlawful transport activities at the airport.

Ms Yip said the Airport Authority and Police will deploy more staff to ensure the smooth implementation of the new measure. More signs have also been erected to help passengers find Carpark 3.
