Roger Tupper presents commendations
Life savers: Director of Marine Roger Tupper presents commendations to 21 people who rescued others in Hong Kong waters last year.

Director of Marine Roger Tupper says new measures will be introduced this year to raise awareness of pleasure craft safety near beaches to prevent speeding in recreational zones.

Speaking at a presentation ceremony today, Mr Tupper said the department will join Police and the Leisure & Cultural Services Department to launch educational seminars and publicity campaigns.

An Announcement in the Public Interest promoting considerate boating behaviour will be produced and a public ambassador will be appointed to disseminate the message.

The department's Harbour Patrol Section will enhance enforcement.

The director presented commendations to 21 people who risked their lives to rescue others in Hong Kong waters last year. They include 15 Police, three Star Ferry crewmembers, two civilians, and an Asiatic Marine staff member.
