Clearways relaxation for taxis extended
*
Transport Department

The Transport Department will extend the scheme on relaxing clearways for taxis until January 31 next year.

The scheme allows taxis to pick up and set down passengers at peak-hour clearways and 7am-7pm clearways on roads with speed limits less than 70kph.

The move has not caused any major traffic congestion or obstruction and has helped taxis provide point-to-point services.

Drivers should strictly observe the 'pick up, drop-off and go' and 'no waiting' rules. If there are violations or obstruction and inconvenience to other road users, the Government will consider terminating the relaxation.

As restricted zone permits will expire January 31, replacements will be necessary. Counters will be set up issuing new permits at 13 LPG stations January 22 to 24 from noon to 6pm. Permit renewals will also be available at the department's four licensing offices from January 22.

For enquiries call 1823.
