Norman Lo receives a good evaluation report from ICAO
Health protection: Director-General of Civil Aviation Norman Lo receives the ICAO evaluation report endorsed by Dr Jarnail Singh (left).

The International Civil Aviation Organisation has confirmed that the Hong Kong International Airport fully complies with the body's guidelines for preventing the spread of communicable diseases through air travel.

Welcoming the evaluation result, Director-General of Civil Aviation Norman Lo said the report reaffirms that training and procedures in place at the airport are appropriate and in compliance with international standards.

Dr Jarnail Singh, the body's Aviation Medicine Expert responsible for the Cooperative Arrangement for Preventing the Spread of Communicable Diseases through Air Travel Project, endorsed the report.

Dr Singh conducted a two-day evaluation in Hong Kong on December 13 and 14, and met with Civil Aviation Department, Airport Authority and Department of Health representatives.

The evaluation includes awareness of and compliance with the International Health Regulations, communication of information on travel and spread of communicable diseases, awareness of phases in the WHO's global influenza preparedness plan and their implications for screening, and awareness of airport-specific guidelines.
