Probe launched into wall collapse

An investigation has been launched into the collapse of an external wall at a demolition site in Aberdeen. Assistant Director of Buildings Choy Kin-kuen said the contractor has been instructed to suspend work until safety measures are put in place.

The project's authorised person, registered structural engineer and contractor have been ordered to submit a report on the incident.

About 4pm yesterday a portion of the external wall, measuring about 16 metres wide and six metres high, fell from the fourth floor of an industrial building being demolished on Heung Yip Road.

Buildings Department staff went to the site to assess the building's condition and oversee work to remove loose and dangerous sections.

A section of Yip Fat Street, closed after the incident, re-opened about 3am today after debris was cleared.
