Several Government departments will take immediate measures to control the risk of flooding in Fo Tan before the end of the rainy season.
The Drainage Services Department today met with the Highways, Water Supplies and Home Affairs Departments to discuss ways to resolve the problem in the longer term.
The road on Wong Chuk Yeung Street was severely damaged during torrential rain on June 2. The area was struck again by flooding a week later, flushing away a parked car and damaging repairs.
The Drainage Services Department will remove a drainage bottleneck on Wong Chuk Yeung Tsuen Path, and conduct urgent works in the next few weeks. Four drains under a road bridge will be replaced. The work will be completed in about four months.
The Water Supplies Department will consider, as an interim measure, diverting some of the upland flow to other catchments. The Highways Department will arrange reconstruction of sections of the street, and the installation of sub-soil drains.
Inspection and clearance of debris in gratings, grills and pipelines will also be enhanced.
