Vehicle first registration fees will rise to $450 from $390 on May 3. The move was gazetted today.

A recent cost review by the Government found the fee payable by car importers and distributors was inadequate to recover the full cost of providing the services.

In line with the "user pays" principle, the 15% rise will help the Government recover costs and lessen the financial impact on users of the services.
