The public consultation on mandatory building inspection will close on March 15, the Housing, Planning & Lands Bureau says, urging people to promptly submit their views on the proposals.
The bureau today said more than 130 submissions have been received since the consultation began on October 21. The bureau has held four public forums and one industry forum, and has sent representatives to attend 26 meetings organised by District Councils, political parties and concerned groups to exchange views on the proposals.
The bureau has extended the consultation period from the end of January to mid-March to give the community more time to deliberate and collate views for submission.
The proposed scheme requires owners of private buildings aged 30 years or above to engage qualified inspectors to check their buildings every seven years and undertake the repairs.
It has also proposed two options for mandatory window inspection - regular and one-off inspections - including a package of support measures to assist owners in carrying out inspection and maintenance.
The consultation document can be downloaded here. Hard copies and leaflets can also be obtained from the Housing, Planning & Lands Bureau, the Buildings Department and District Offices. Views can be submitted by fax on 2845 3489, by email to bmm@hplb.gov.hk or by post to Urban Renewal Unit, Housing, Planning & Lands Bureau, 9/F Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong.
