2 special features
One of the special features of the projects is a "jade walk" in the segment of Pei Ho Street. A small town square, with a theme on the art of jade, will be built right next to the existing jade bazaar.
The second special feature is a "pebble walk" garden of 8,000 square feet. The authority envisions a small garden landscaped with lots of greenery and decorative stone columns. Enclosing the greens would be a pebble walkway, about 660 feet long.
The authority's District Development Director Joseph Lee said the projects involve 37 dilapidated residential buildings built in the post-war period.
"There are 385 property interests and about 680 households. The URA will soon submit a draft scheme plan to the Town Planning Board for approval."
Compensation cost
Upon approval by the board and the Chief Executive-in-Council, the authority will issue acquisition offers to owners and, following acquisition, compensate or rehouse the tenants. The total compensation and rehousing cost is estimated at about $1.1 billion.
Briefing and consultation sessions will be held next week to explain to the owners and tenants the planning approval procedure and, if approved, the acquisition and compensation arrangements.
