Building inspection consultation extended
*

The public consultation on Mandatory Building Inspection will be extended six weeks to March 15, the Housing, Planning & Lands Bureau says.

The extension was suggested to give the community more time to deliberate on the proposals and to collate views for submission to the Government.

The Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme proposes that owners of private buildings aged 30 years or above be required to engage qualified inspectors to check their buildings every seven years and undertake necessary repair work.

The Government has drawn up in this consultation document two options for mandatory window inspection - regular inspection and one-off inspection within a specified time by owners. It has also proposed a package of support measures allowing owners to conduct inspections and maintenance.

Copies of the consultation document and leaflet can be obtained from the Housing, Planning & Lands Bureau, the Buildings Department and District Offices, or downloaded from the bureau's website and the Building Department's website. Views can be submitted by faxing 2845 3489 or emailing bmm@hplb.gov.hk.
