Spot check: Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao (second left)inspects repair work at the KCRC's Fo Tan Depot.
*

Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao has visited the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation's Fo Tan Depot to inspect the mounting problem affecting some East Rail trains.

Accompanied by the KCRC's Acting Chief Executive Officer Samuel Lai and Senior Director-Transport Li Yun-tai, she examined measures taken to reinforce underframe equipment.

Dr Liao yesterday reprimanded the KCRC for not immediately notifying the Government when it found problems with the trains.

A special team comprising engineers of the Railway Inspectorate and staff of relevant departments has been formed to look into the incident and to ensure safety.
