Forum to gauge views on Nathan Road safety

Nathan Road safety improvement plan
Pedestrian protection: Views are being sought on safety upgrades to Nathan Road between Waterloo and Mong Kok Roads.

Members of the public are invited to attend a Friday evening Transport Department forum to give their views on the safety improvement plan for the Mong Kok section of busy Nathan Road.

The forum will be held at the Mong Kok Community Hall, L2, Mong Kok Complex, 557 Shanghai Street, Mong Kok, starting at 7pm.

The department last month proposed three improvement options for public consultation:

* expanding part of the roadside footpaths;

* banning motorcycles, cars and trucks from entering that section; and

* banning all vehicles except buses from entering that section.

Yau Tsim Mong District Council's Traffic & Transport Committee Chairman Dr Law Wing-cheung will chair the forum. Assistant Commissioner for Transport Anthony Loo, Yau Tsim Mong District Council Chairman Henry Chan, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Hong Kong representative Sam Chow, Hong Kong Institute of Planners' Betty Ho and Community for Road Safety Chairman Julian Kwong will also attend.

Consultation details

The consultation digest can be downloaded here. Comments should be submitted by November 30 by faxing 2397 8046, filling in an online reply slip or mailing the Transport Department, 8/F, Mong Kok Government Offices, Luen Wan Street, Mong Kok.

Based on the feedback, the most appropriate concept will be selected. Any selected concept will be implemented in stages and trials will be held to ensure public acceptance.
