Over half of the 2,438-hectare area in Tai Po has been zoned green belt while Fung Yuen Valley and Tai Po Egretry, at 43.5 hectares, have been designated sites of special scientific interest, the Town Planning Board says.
The draft Tai Po Outline Zoning Plan, approved by the Chief Executive in Council, covers three areas - Tai Po Hui and its adjacent reclamation, the valley floors and lower hillslopes to the north and south, and the steep upper hillslopes in the peripheral areas.
About 300 hectares is zoned for private residential and public housing developments with different densities. About 24.2 hectares in Tai Po Hui is designated for commercial and residential purposes while 149.2 hectares is zoned for village development.
A 18.4 hectare site to the north of Ting Kok Road and to the south of the Fung Yuen Site of Special Scientific Interest is zoned comprehensive development area to phase out undesirable open storage and car-repair workshops. About 175.5 hectares is designated for provision of government, institution or community facilities. Some 69.5 hectares is zoned open space while 37.3 hectares is zoned recreation priority area.
