Neighbourhood improvements: Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao exchanges views with Wong Tai Sin District community representatives on local environmental and transport issues.
*

Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao has visited Wong Tai Sin District to get a first-hand understanding of local environmental and transport issues.

Accompanied by lawmaker Chan Kam-lam and local dignitaries, Dr Liao observed the traffic conditions at the Tze Wan Shan Road and Lung Cheung Road areas and listened to views on they could be improved.

She discussed the noise-pollution problem in the vicinity of Lung Cheung Road with community representatives. They also examined whether certain sections of the road could be resurfaced with noise-reducing material to minimise the noise impact on residents.

The party then went to the Kai Tak Nullah and were briefed on plans to deck the upstream section of this open nullah at a cost of  $487 million.

Dr Liao said the project would be a complicated one, involving the demolition of the existing open nullah and reconstruction of a box culvert. Officers of the Drainage Services Department said careful environmental and traffic assessments will be made at the design stage and the public will be consulted.

Before finishing her visit, Dr Liao also had a discussion with local dignitaries on the district's latest developments.
