Segway scooter prohibited from roads
*
Transport Department

The Segway Human Transporter has been deemed unsuitable for road use by the Transport Department.

The electric scooter fails to comply with Road Traffic (Construction & Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations, so the department cannot register or license the vehicle.

It cannot be used on highways, thoroughfares, streets, lanes, alleys, courts, squares, car parks, passages, paths, ways and places to which the public has access, either public or private.

People should know the permitted areas for using the vehicle before purchasing one, to avoid becoming subject to prosecution or legal liability. Importers and retailers are also urged to state that the vehicle is not legally permitted for road use in Hong Kong.
