Innovation & Technology Commission

The Innovation & Technology Commission will promote the adoption of international standards to ensure a safer environment.

On the eve of World Standards Day 2005, the commission said today the Government encourages adoption of international standards and gives priority to keeping up to date with the requirements of prevailing standards.

International standards are incorporated into the Government's regulatory requirements to promote safe and secure use of products in Hong Kong. Compliance satisfies the requirements of legislation like the Toys & Children's Products Safety Ordinance, the Consumer Goods Safety Ordinance and the Electrical Products (Safety) Regulation.

The commission participates in major international and regional forums to keep up to date with standards and conformance issues. Its Product Standards Information Bureau maintains a library with 120,000 standards issued by a number of bodies, and offers a technical enquiry service.
