Central-Wan Chai bypass forum to be held

The Expert Panel Forum on Sustainable Transport Planning & the Central-Wan Chai Bypass will be held September 3 at the Convention & Exhibition Centre.

 

It will allow people to air their views on whether there is a need for the bypass to solve traffic problems on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island.

 

The Harbour-front Enhancement Committee's Sub-committee on the Wan Chai Development Phase II Review has received 18 submissions and all have been passed to the experts for consideration.

 

Submitters' list

One of the submissions, from the Transport Department, explains in detail the need for the bypass. The other 17 submissions are from:

* the Servicemen's Guides Association;

* Clear the Air;

* Save Our Shorelines;

* Wan Chai District Council's Planning, Traffic & Environmental Protection Committee Chairman Stephen Ng;

* Swire Properties;

* the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals;

* the Trade Development Council;

* the MTR Corporation;

* the Kowloon Taxi Owners Association;

* the Harbour Business Forum;

* Legislative Councillor Dr Kwok Ka-ki;

* the Business Environment Council;

* the Civic Exchange;

* the Society for Protection of the Harbour;

* Designing Hong Kong Harbour District; and,

* two members of the public.

 

Expert analysis

The forum will be held from 2pm Saturday. Nine transport experts will deliberate. Views will also be invited from other participants, with priority given to those who wish to clarify or expand on their submissions.

 

The public, academics, professionals and other interested parties are invited to attend, and pre-registration is recommended.
