Wan Chai site to be rejuvenated

A site at Lee Tung and McGregor Streets in Wan Chai will be redeveloped into a commercial-residential area with open space.

The plan will rejuvenate the 8,929 square-metre site, improving living and environmental conditions.

The Lands Department will resume the land for the Urban Renewal Authority project, which will see the preservation of three historical tenement houses from the 1930s on Queen's Road East.

Moving out

Affected interests will revert to the Government three months after the date of the resumption notice. Details of the private land affected were gazetted today.

Apart from their entitlement to statutory compensation, owners will be offered an ex-gratia home purchase allowance or supplementary allowance as appropriate.

Owners and tenants affected can make statutory claims under the Lands Resumption Ordinance or apply to the Lands Tribunal for adjudication if claims cannot be settled.

Occupiers of commercial properties are eligible for an ex-gratia allowance in lieu of the right to make statutory claims for loss of business and disturbance.

Domestic occupiers will be offered rehousing or ex-gratia cash allowances in lieu of rehousing by the Housing Authority, Housing Society or the Urban Renewal Authority.
