The Civil Aviation Department has clarified a flap track fairing did not fall from a Dragonair A330 flying from Tokyo to Hong Kong on July 22. The fairing was removed for repair after a recent maintenance inspection.
The fairing reduces aerodynamic drag to enhance fuel efficiency, and its absence does not affect flight safety. The manufacturer says the aircraft can fly with the flap track fairing removed.
The department will liaise with Dragonair to expedite the replacement of the fairing.
