June container throughput up 4.6%

Hong Kong container ports handled 1,910,000 containers in June, up 4.6% over a year earlier. Taking the first six months of this year together, the container throughput went up 1.3%, to 10,747,000 containers.

 

The Port Development Council said the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals recorded a throughput of 1,210,000 containers last month, a 10.4% increase over a year earlier. Nevertheless, the throughput of other terminals went down 4.1%, to 700,000 containers.

 

Taking the first six months together, the throughput of Kwai Tsing Container Terminals went up 11.1% over the same period last year, with 6,842,000 containers handled. Other terminals, however, recorded a 12.2% decline, with a throughput of 3,905,000 containers.

 

Compared with the May figures, the number of containers the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals handled in June grew about 2%, while other terminals saw a rise of 2.9%.
