Mechanic registration scheme backed
*

A voluntary registration scheme for mechanics will be beneficial to the trade and consumers, Transport Advisory Committee Chairman Teresa Cheng says.

At its meeting today, members considered the Government's proposal for the scheme. Ms Cheng said a survey has found the majority of vehicle workshop operators and mechanics prefer to adopt an incremental approach by first launching a voluntary scheme.

She said the committee supports the Government's proposal for voluntary registration as it will minimise impact on the trade's employment situation.

Members were also briefed on the progress and fares of the MTR Disneyland Resort Line.

"We notice the DRL project has been progressing well and the corporation has taken into consideration the economic situation, operating condition, public affordability, market competition as well as the nature of the trips in setting the fares," Ms Cheng said.

The committee noted the line's operational features, including automatic platform gates and automatic operation, which were first introduced in the MTR system.
