The Urban Renewal Authority has launched a three-day survey to update its domestic tenant records in five ex-Land Development Corporation projects to estimate the number of re-housing units required and the related costs.
The authority said the move does not mean the projects will be implemented immediately. Due to commercial sensitivity and to prevent speculation, the authority will only announce the commencement and mode of renewal of a project when it is due for implementation.
The five projects are at Kwun Tong Town Centre, Peel and Graham Streets in Sheung Wan, Sai Yee Street in Mong Kok, Sai Wan Ho Street in Shau Kei Wan, and Nga Tsin Wai Village in Wong Tai Sin, involving 2,400 households.
The survey will also provide information on domestic tenants who may be affected by the Landlord & Tenant (Consolidation) (Amendment) Ordinance, which came into effect last July, abolishing security of tenure and statutory compensation for tenants when their landlords repossess their properties for redevelopment.
The authority said in view of the abolition of statutory compensation for domestic tenants, it will provide re-housing or compensation on an ex-gratia basis, where appropriate.
Over 300 interviewers have been deployed for the three-day survey. For enquiries call 2588 2333.
