Traffic talk: Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Sarah Liao briefs the media.

Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Sarah Liao has apologised to motorists and commuters for East Kowloon's traffic jams on May 9, which resulted from a scaffolding collapse on Prince Edward Road.

Dr Liao said today a taskforce has been launched to review the incident and suggest improvement measures by next month. Transport Advisory Committee chairman Teresa Cheng will head the panel.

Dr Liao said the Government tried its best to implement contingency measures on that day, but admitted there is room for improvement, particularly in disseminating news to the public as traffic bulletins did not emphasise the seriousness of the congestion enough. Improvements to traffic bulletins will be implemented immediately.
