Tuen Mun Road safer: Sarah Liao
*

Parapet improvements at 12 of the 39 priority locations on Tuen Mun Road have been completed and the remaining works will be done by year's end, Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao says.

Dr Liao told legislators today barriers will be added in front of the steel parapets along the section between Belvedere Garden and Yau Kom Tau, while posts and rails will also be added to the parapets to enhance their height and containment level. Works will be completed by September.

"We are now reviewing in detail the design and safety standards of parapets. The review would be completed early next year," Dr Liao said.

"For the bridge section of the Hone Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor, we will adopt a parapet design that has a higher containment capacity to ensure it will be able to withstand the impact of heavy vehicles."
