The Office of the Telecommunications Authority has issued guidelines to facilitate interconnection between in-building coaxial cable distribution systems to enable building residents to enjoy different broadcasting services at the same time through the systems.
These services include satellite TV, local free TV, pay-TV and sound broadcast services, telecommunications services and security services.
OFTA said the industry adopts different practices for in-building coaxial cable distribution systems interconnection.
These practices may lead to the loss of some services when the residents switch from one service provider to another, the office added.
The guideline provides practical guidance to the industry in respect of the technical configurations and charging arrangement sof the interconnection to be considered for the purpose of a determination as the case may warrant.
Operators will discuss and reach commercial agreement on interconnection arrangements to be adopted and if there are disputes, they may seek for assistance from OFTA.
If a determination is required, OFTA will refer to the guidelines.
The guidelines also outline possible technical configurations of interconnection between in-building coaxial cable distribution systems.
Operators may apply any one of the technical configurations with regard to the technical capabilities of the systems and other relevant factors.
