Lok Ma Chau improvement works to start
*
Highways Department

The Government today signed a $348 million contract with Chun Wo Construction & Engineering Company Limited to begin the improvement works to San Tin Interchange at Lok Ma Chau.

The existing San Tin Interchange and the roads in the vicinity are overloaded and the cross-boundary traffic queue often tails back from the vehicle holding area to the San Tin roundabout, and consequently affects the smooth operation of San Tin Highway and Fanling Highway.

To cope with the cross-boundary traffic demand and to relieve traffic congestion, a pair of elevated roads will be constructed from San Tin Highway and Fanling Highway approaches of the roundabout as bypasses to the vehicle holding area.

Only northbound cross-boundary goods vehicles will use these elevated roads when completed so as to segregate these vehicles from other vehicles using the existing San Tin roundabout.

Works start in April for completion in early 2007.
