The direction of the Government's concept plan for Lantau is generally agreeable, Transport Advisory Committee chairman Teresa Cheng says.
Speaking after the committee's meeting today, Ms Cheng hoped the Government will fully take into account the comments and views collected in the public consultation exercise before making a decision.
The plan proposes major economic infrastructure and urban development in North Lantau to optimise the planned transport links and infrastructure, while at the same time protecting the other parts of Lantau for nature conservation and sustainable recreational and visitor uses.
Power system replacement necessary
At today's meeting, the committee welcomed the Government's proposal to replace the switchboards and transformers of the power supply system in Aberdeen Tunnel.
The system was installed when the tunnel was commissioned in 1982, and most of the core components are reaching the end of their serviceable life, Ms Cheng said.
"We agree that it is necessary to replace the system to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for safe, efficient and cost-effective tunnel operation.
"We also welcome the Government's undertaking that, in carrying out the relevant works, it will ensure minimal disruption to the tunnel traffic", Ms Cheng said.
