Public's views respected: If the majority of the public want the West Kowloon Cultural District development project to start afresh, the Government will have no choice but to follow, Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang says.

If the majority of the public want the West Kowloon Cultural District development project to start afresh, the Government will have no choice but to follow, Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang says.

Speaking on a radio talk show today, Mr Tsang said if the public agreed with the idea of the district, but not the single-tender format, the Government will look into the tender's details to see whether anything could be done to improve the process.

He said the Government is determined to develop the West Kowloon into a cultural district, adding he would be sorry if the current development was vetoed.

In additon, it would affect Hong Kong investors' confidence, he said.

No collusion over Cyberport

On other matters, Mr Tsang stressed that there was no collusion between business and the Government in the Cyberport project.

He said the idea to set up a Cyberport, together with the Disney theme park project, was proposed when Hong Kong faced an economic downturn in 1998.

Noting that Hong Kong is experiencing an ageing population, Mr Tsang said measures have to be taken to address problem.

He hoped Hong Kong's young couples will give birth to more children.

He said the Government will review the existing two plans to attract more talented people to come to Hong Kong.
